The Tucson Association of REALTORS® advocacy program works to leverage the largest business organization in Southern Arizona and its substantial financial impact on Southern Arizona’s economy to proactively influence public policy affecting all aspects of real estate and our regional economy. Our focus is collaborating with decision makers, community stakeholders and other business organizations to improve our community and advance the interests of our industry.

REALTORS® of Arizona Political Action Committee (RAPAC) is a member-sponsored effort organized to financially support candidates running for local, state and federal office whose position on real estate regulation and a free-market business environment most closely represent the initiatives of the Arizona REALTORS®.

RAPAC strives to educate city council members, legislators and members of congress about our industry and guarantees that no decision is made that will affect our industry, good or bad, until our voice is heard.

TAR Supports Streamlined Plat Approval to Boost Housing Supply

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® submitted comments to the Pima County Planning Commission in support of a zoning code amendment that allows the Development Services Director to approve final plats and assurances. This change would shorten development timelines, reduce delays for homebuyers, and align with best practices across Arizona, all while maintaining existing standards and accountability. TAR emphasized that the update is a common-sense step to increase housing opportunities and meet growing demand in Pima County.

TAR Advocates for ADU Flexibility to Expand Housing Options

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® urged the Pima County Planning Commission to support zoning code changes that permit accessory dwelling units (ADUs) with a consistent maximum size of 1,250 sq. ft. without restrictions. TAR emphasized that this clear, flexible standard would reduce barriers for builders, expand affordable housing choices, and better meet the community’s pressing housing needs. By simplifying policy and encouraging smaller, more attainable homes, the amendment aligns with Pima County’s goals of affordability, sustainability, and efficient land use.

TAR Champions Citywide Missing Middle Housing Reform

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® expressed strong support for a citywide Missing Middle Housing ordinance, calling it a practical, market-based solution to Tucson’s housing affordability challenges. The letter urged comprehensive implementation across the city to expand housing supply, increase attainable options for families, workers, and seniors, and empower local builders to revitalize vacant lots. TAR emphasized that the reform would relieve pressure on housing costs, support economic growth, and ensure Tucson remains a community where residents can afford to live and thrive.

TAR Urges Stronger Community Corridors Tool to Address Housing Crisis

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® submitted comments to the Tucson City Council highlighting the urgent need to strengthen the proposed Community Corridors Tool (CCT). While supporting its goals of higher-density, mixed-use development, TAR emphasized that height allowances along community corridors are essential to meeting housing demand and avoiding sprawl. The letter also called for a shorter review period to ensure timely progress and cautioned against adding barriers that could weaken the tool’s effectiveness in addressing Tucson’s housing shortage.

TAR Calls for Increased Investment in Public Safety

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® submitted comments to the Tucson City Council urging increased funding for the Tucson Police Department in the 2025 city budget. TAR emphasized that public safety is a core service of local government and a key factor in maintaining neighborhood stability, meeting housing demand, and enhancing community livability. The letter highlighted that adequate staffing, fair compensation, and proper resources for law enforcement are essential to supporting strong, vibrant communities and ensuring Tucson remains a safe place to live, work, and invest.

TAR Urges Bold Action on Tucson’s General Plan to Prioritize Housing Production

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® submitted comments on the City of Tucson’s draft General Plan, stressing the urgent need to prioritize housing production and affordability. TAR recommended stronger commitments to diverse housing types, streamlined permitting, and zoning reforms to reduce barriers and costs. The letter also emphasized linking economic development with housing growth, offering financial incentives for workforce housing, and making redevelopment more feasible. TAR called this a pivotal opportunity for Tucson to move beyond past policies and ensure a growing, inclusive, and affordable future for all residents.
