NEWS & ANNOUCEMENTS

Happy Fourth of July!

The Tucson Association of REALTORS® wish you all a happy and safe Independence Day.  Our thoughts especially go to our military service people and their families that are acutely aware of the price of freedom every day.

Please be extra careful with any celebrations during one of the worst wildfire seasons in our history.  Pima County has outlawed the lighting of fireworks in the county.  Make sure you know the rules in your community.

Pima County

The Board of Supervisors approved plans on Tuesday to allow Fotowatio Renewable Venture (FRV) to move forward with plans to construct a solar energy project in Pima County.  This is a great win for our community with the creation of up to 300 construction jobs, at least $ 4.5 million in new property taxes and a further step forward in establishing our community as a leader in alternative energy generation.

Welcome FRV!

City of Tucson

Mayor and Council approved, by a 6-0 vote on Tuesday, a neighborhood preservation plan for the Jefferson Park neighborhood.  TAR addressed this issue with a letter stating our concerns regarding property rights, legal liability and the unintended consequences that this policy might have on communitywide planning efforts that are taking place right now.  Click here to read the full text of the letter.

And Then There Were Three

Legal challenges have knocked four of seven potential mayoral candidates off the ballot in the effort to replace Mayor Bob Walkup.  Only Democrat Jonathan Rothschild and Green Party candidates Dave Croteau and Mary DeCamp remain on the ballot.
