Government Affairs Update
March 8, 2012
Legislative Update:
HB 2656 and HB 2416 are both ready and waiting to be voted on by the
full Senate. HB 2416 would effectively force the City of Tucson to provide
water service to the Painted Hills development just outside the current city
boundaries. Mayor and Council have opposed water service to this area to block
its development. The Legislature, through this bill, appears poised to force
the City of Tucson to reverse this decision.
HB 2656 was opposed by the
Arizona Association of REALTORS®. Due in part to our lobbying efforts, the
original bill has been significantly amended. The amendments removed a
requirement that would have created a committee of elected officials that could
block proposed bond packages before voters even had the chance to vote on them.
