Governor Visits TAR!
On May 29th Governor Janet Napolitano visited the Tucson Association of REALTORS® to talk to leadership of both the REALTORS® and the Business community about her T.I.M.E initiative. The T.I.M.E initiative is a state wide transportation plan that would allow for long-term planning and create a dedicated revenue source through a 1 cent sales tax. Although the REALTORS® have not taken a formal stance on this issue we were thrilled to host Governor at our office and, as one community leader said paraphrasing a common refrain, “Her visit to TAR recognizes the fact that your Association (TAR) is playing a major leadership role in the community”.

Protect Our Homes
The Protect Our Homes initiative is currently being passed on the streets. We are encouraging all REALTORS® to sign this petition and encourage their friends and families to do the same. Once this initiative has been filed it will be assigned a number and will be on the November general ballot. This initiative is a constitutional amendment to the Arizona Constitution and would constitutionally ban any real estate transfer tax. Because it is a constitutional amendment it is going to be a YES! Vote for no real estate transfer tax! So remember Yes! On No Transfer Tax!

Demolition Code
TAR is currently in the process of suing the City of Tucson over their adoption of the Demolition Code. We are suing because of process but feel that we need a real life example of someone who has been affected by the new demolition code. If you or someone you know has had a demolition permit revoked or delayed by the city recently please contact Colin at colin@tucsonrealtors.org .

Public Affairs Needs You!
The Public Affairs team is looking for individual REALTORS® to help with our outreach to elected officials. If you have a relationship, or would like to cultivate a relationship with a City Council Member or Supervisor then you can become a Public Affairs Liaison. There are six Council members, five Supervisors and the Mayor so we would like 12 volunteers for these positions. We will be adding other jurisdictions in the near future. If you would like to volunteer or need more information please contact Colin Zimmerman at colin@tucsonrealtors.org

New Beginnings for Women and Children Needs Your Financial Help!
New Beginnings for Women and Children is a nonprofit organization founded in Tucson in 1987 to help homeless women and their children become financially independent. New Beginnings has experienced a significant shortfall of $150,000 in donations due to current economic conditions. As a result, they have set up the New Beginnings Fund and have a goal of raising $50,000 by June 13. The New Beginnings Fund is a campaign to bridge the gap between their increasing expenses and current income level. Your support can have a positive impact on women and children that will last for their entire lives. To contribute to the fund, make a donation at any Chase Bank. Online contributions can be made at www.nbwcfund.org. Or write a check payable to New Beginnings with “New Beginnings Fund” written on the memo line, and mail it to 2590 N. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ 85712.

The Teaching & Helping program and the Volunteer Center Needs your Help
The Teaching & Helping program and the Volunteer Center have joined forces to create a special summer youth program (June 16-20) where young people learn to fix old houses by helping low-income families with some of their home repair needs. They need help in identifying low-income families who need help with certain home repair projects and young adults who want to learn valuable skills by helping needy families. For more information, please contact Tres at 795-3413.
