Parking Reduction
During the process of over hauling the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) a stakeholders group was formed that advised City Developmental Services that parking requirements are at the heart of much of the CofO issue as well as the reason for many unused buildings throughout the City. The City responded with an aggressive first step that would reduce parking requirements to 3 for every 1000 square feet as well as allow business owners to work with the City to use existing buildings for business even if they don’t meet current parking requirements. Last night at the City Planning Commission the commissioners voted 10-2 to recommend reducing parking requirements throughout the City of Tucson.
Impact Fees & Economic Stimulus
On Tuesday the 10th at Mayor and Council study session, the idea of suspending impact fees for a year was discussed. The idea was put forward by Council Member Glassman and Council Member Scott made a motion to create a stakeholders group that would examine this impact fee idea as well as another idea put forward by Council Member Scott as a possible economic stimulus to the region.
With five days left before the committee is supposed to give its recommendation to Mayor and Council they are really no closer to an agreement then they were when they started. The committee has been working tirelessly but many on the committee seem rooted in a position that they will not sway from. Their second to last meeting is this evening. Laura Mance deserves a big thank you for representing us and working so hard on this issue.
