The unemployment rate in
Pima County of 3.8% is well below the national
average of 4.5%, according to the City of
Tucson.
According to the
University of Arizona Economic Outlook,
professional and business services
employment is expected to increase by 6.7%
in 2007. Leisure/hospitality, government and
manufacturing jobs are also expected to
increase. Only construction and information
employment opportunities are expected to
decrease in 2007. Tourism accounts for one
in 10 jobs and adds over $1.8 billion to the
local economy each year, according to the
Tucson Planning & Development Department.
Tucson is home to a
number of large employers, including the
University of Arizona,
Davis-Monthan Air
Force Base and
Raytheon.
